یکی از بهترین کتاب های تقویت مهارتهای شنیداری، کتاب Tactics for Listening از موسسه Oxford  می‌باشد. این کتاب در سه سطح

Basic, Developing, Expanding ارائه شده است. این کتاب به گونه ای تنظیم شده که تمام مباحث روزمره زبان انگلیسی را پوشش می دهد. از ویژگی دیگر این کتاب تقویت همزمان مهارت شنیداری و گفتاری شماست و علاوه بر افزایش این دو مهارت، زبان آموز با Stress & Intonation یعنی حفظ آهنگین بودن کلام و تکیه صدا و همچنین Accent یا همان لهجه و طرز قرائت کلمات آشنا خواهد شد. این مجموعه از کتاب ها، دارای سه سطح است که تحت عناوین زیر دسته بندی شده‌اند :

The obstacle in our path

In ancient times, a king had a boulder placed on a road way.Then he hide himself and watched to see if anyone would remove the huge rock.Some of the king's wealthiest merchants and courtiers came and simply walked around it

Many loudly blamed the king for not keeping the roads clear.But non did anything about getting the big stone out of the way.Then a peasant came along carrying a load of vegetables.On approaching the boulder, the peasant laid down his burden and tried to move the stone to the side of the road

After much pushing and straining, he finally succeeded. As the peasant picked up his load of vegetables, he noticed a purse lying in the road where the boulder had been. The purse contained many gold coins and a note from the king indicating that the gold was the person who removed the boulder from the road way

The peasant learned what many others understand

Every obstacle presents an opportunity to improve one's condition

Arthur Ashe, The legendary Wimbledon player was dying of AIDS which he got due to infected blood he received during a heart surgery in 1983. from world over, he received letters from his fans. mountain story

A son and his father were talking on the mountains.Suddenly, his son falls, hurts himself and screams. To his surprise, he hears the voice repeating somewhere in the mountain.curious, he yells:Who are you? he receives the answer:Who are you

And then he screams to the mountain:I admire you.The voice answers:I admire you

Angered at the response he screams:Coward.He receives the answered:Coward

:He looks to his father and asks: What's going on? The father smiled and says

My son ,pay attention

The boy was surprised, but doesn't understand.Then the father explains: people call this ECHO.But really this is LIFE.It gives you back everything you say or do

Sara was eight years old when she heard her mom and dad talking about her little brother. All she knew was that he was very sick and they were completely out of money. Only a very costly surgery could save him now and it was looking like there was no-one to loan them money

She heard daddy say to her mother with whispered desperation: only a miracle can save him now. Sara went to her bedroom and pulled a jar from its closet. She poured all the changes out on the flour and counted it carefully. Then she slipped out the back door and passed her way to drug store. She waited for the pharmacist to give her some attention

But he was too intently talking to another man to be bothered by an eight years old at this moment. Finally she took a quarter from her jar and banged it on the glass counter

And what do you want? The pharmacist asked in an annoyed tone of voice. Sara answered: my brother is really sick and I want to buy a miracle. I beg your pardon? Said the pharmacist. His name is Andrew and he has something bad growing inside his head and my daddy says only a

?miracle can save him now. So how much does a miracle cost

We don’t sell miracle here little girl. I’m sorry but I can’t help you. The pharmacist said. I have

  the money to pay for it. If it’s not enough I will get the rest. Just tell me how much it cost

the pharmacist's brother was a well dressed man.He stooped down and asked the little girl,"what kind of a miracle does your brother need?" Sara replied,"I don't know.I just know he's really sick and mommy says he needs an operation.But my daddy can't pay for it,so I want to use my money

How much do you have? asked the man. "one dollar and eleven cents" Sara answered barely audibly. "And it's all the money I have, but I can get some more if I  need to".The man smiled and said,"one dollarand eleven cents, the price of a miracle for your little brother

Then he grasped her and said,"Take me to where you live.I want to see your brother and meet

"your parents.Let's see if I  have kind of miracle you need

That well dressed man was Dr.Armstrong, a surgeon,specializing in neuron-surgery.The operation was completed without charge and it wasn't long until Andrew was home again and doing well.Mom and Dad were so happy.Her Mom whispered,"That surgery was a real miracle. I wonder how much it would have cost?" Sara smiled. She knew exactly how much a miracle cost...one dollar and eleven cents...plus the faith of a little child

It was advertised that the Devil was going to put his tools up for sale. On the date of the sale

the tools were placed for public inspection, each tool being marked with its sale price

They were a treacherous lot of implements…hatred, Envy,Jealousy,Decite,Lying, pride, and

soon. Laid apart from the rest was a harmless looking tool, that appeared to have been heavily

used, and was priced very high

What is the name of this tool? asked one of the purchasers, pointing to it.”that is

discouragement ”replied the Devil

why have you priced it so high? the purchaser said. The Devil said, “because it is more useful

to me than all the others ”. I can pry open and get inside people’s hearts with that. When I can

not get near them with my other tools. Once I get inside, I can make them do what I choose! It

is badly worn because I used it on almost everyone, since very few people know that it belongs to me
